A Personal Curiosity That Became a Cultural Bridge
The Japanese Language & Cultural Exchange (JLCE) was born from a unique personal connection.
Founder Yuki Isaacs’ mother maintained a deep respect and connection to Japan, which led her to give him the Japanese name Yuki. This inspired a personal curiosity about Japanese culture that developed into a deeper dedication to the language and its people. As a self-taught Japanese learner in Malawi, Yuki recognized the stark absence of local platforms where Malawians could learn Japanese, explore the culture, and connect with opportunities related to Japan.
JLCE developed from this vision: creating a supportive space where young Malawians can learn Japanese from scratch, explore traditions, and build international pathways.
相互交流 Reciprocal Exchange: Connecting Both Ways
JLCE believes cultural exchange must never be one-directional. While helping Malawians learn Japanese, we actively create welcoming opportunities for Japanese citizens, volunteers, and visitors in Malawi to learn Chichewa and experience the warmth, heritage, and creativity of Malawian culture.
Institutional Status & Cultural Engagement
JLCE’s formal organizational registration is currently in progress. Our team actively engages with representatives of the Embassy of Japan and cultural delegates during educational and public cultural activities in Malawi.
* Note: JLCE operates as an independent community initiative; our engagement and participation in public cultural events do not constitute formal sponsorship, funding, or official endorsement by foreign embassies or development agencies.
